Each portrait is accompanied by a short biography. Not a list of hardships, but stories of empowerment, growth and activation. They are successful journeys with a lasting impact, in which people rediscovered direction and confidence.

Self-care, personal expression and inner strength are recurring themes in every story. They reflect what Binnenste Buiten has stood for over the past 20 years: helping people grow stronger, step by step, tailored to each individual.

This exhibition invites visitors to look differently: beyond labels and vulnerability, towards who people truly are and what they have built. This is Binnenste Buiten in images: real people, real journeys, real strength.

Stronger, step by step

To mark its 20th anniversary, this photography exhibition presents 20 portraits of people who are part of Binnenste Buiten:

• clients who are receiving or have received guidance and support

• work-experience participants from the social shop, sewing atelier, reception desk, administration and self-care salon

• current and former staff members

• volunteers

The sober black-and-white portraits by photographer Godewijn Daled portray them as they truly are: strong, authentic and present. Together, they tell the story of 20 years of empowerment, growth and activation.

This exhibition is not only about what you see, but also about everything that came before it. For many participants, the photoshoot was a meaningful experience: a moment to be seen, to reflect on their journey and to feel proud of the steps they had taken forward. For some, it was their very first professional photoshoot; for many, it was a confirmation: “I matter, my story counts” — a moment of empowerment, self-care and recognition.

The photographs are displayed together, without hierarchy. Everyone is equal, reflecting the universal principle at the heart of Binnenste Buiten: feeling good on the inside and on the outside.
