Circuit biedt plaats aan circulaire ondernemers.

The circular experience centre circuit, the Circular South app, the circules with bitcoin technology, the platform for the group purchases and the solar installations ... This is just the start for many of the different realisations we achieved in the Circular South project. The city and other partners are taking the experiences, tools and test results with them to accelerate transitions in other neighbourhoods and cities. The Circular South project will include the following products as part of its legacy:

  • Group-purchase platform: The platform, the ideas and contacts are there to organise additional group purchases in the future. Using them, people have a very low-threshold manner by which to come into contact with sustainable products and companies.

  • Circuit:  De Kringwinkel Antwerp has a 50-year concession on the community centre and will remain responsible for circuit. The project has taught us that the circular experience centre only works if we begin from the social aspect, the community. In circuit, there is a fair-trade coffee bar, hairdressing salon, flower shop, textile workshop and much more ...

  • Circular South app: a new version of the app will continue to be available for all Flemish people. More and more people are getting digital meters for their water, gas and electricity. Users can link this data to the app to monitor their usage. Fluvius already ensured that their clients can link their gas and electricity data to the app. There are negotiations with other utility service companies underway. In the future, other data may also be made accessible via the app.

  • FC Minder Afval (‘Football Club Less Waste’) campaigns: we have learnt that participants were particularly enthusiastic during the weekly challenges, and on the platform where they could inspire each other and share easy-to-use tips.

  • Community gardens: the communal vegetable gardens remain on the grounds of the Domitys service residence. The participating residents grow vegetables there and also compost their vegetable waste with the help of Posthof vzw.

  • Cooperative neighbourhood energy group: the community solar panels are installed and the cooperative has been set up. With the returns from the solar energy, the group will invest in the sustainability of the neighbourhood. The community manager of circuit will continue to support the group for the coming year. Ecopower will advise them on major projects.

  • Community: from Circular South, a seed of enthusiastic residents who take initiative has been planted and is growing.

Final thoughts

Do you live or work in Antwerp? Are you interested in being involved?

Antwerp for climate

By 2050, Antwerp aims not to have any net greenhouse gas emissions (to be climate neutral) and to prepare the city for the consequences of climate change. A large number of things that were used in Circular South can help in this: the reuse of materials and recuperation of water, saving energy and using alternative energy such as heat networks and solar panels. Are you wondering what we can do by 2050?

circuit

Circuit is the hotspot for circularity. Get your bike repaired there, go to a natural hairdresser, enjoy a fair-trade coffee and shop for second-hand and circular items. Circuit also organises workshops on subjects like reusing and repairing your equipment.
